Martin Novák was born in Ostrava (The Czech Republic) in 1983, grown in Chrudim where he went through basic violin, guitar and later drums education. He fell in love with jazz music on jazz workshops in Frýdlant v Čechách (teacher: Tom Bancroft) and Prague (teachers: Martin Šulc and Jiří Slavíček).
In 2002 he became a member of Roman Pokorný Trio (CD “2 faces”, Arta Records 2004), later he was member of bands like Blues Box Heroes, Yvonne Sanchez & Brazilian Mood (CD “My Garden”, Warner Music 2008) and Najponk Trio.
Now he’s member of David Dorůžka Trio, Beata Hlavenková Trio, Infinite Quintet (CD Speak Slowly, Animal Music 2009, 3rd best jazz CD of the year 2009), Jan Kořínek & Groove (CD Groovin’ For Little V, Hardbop Records 2008) and Najponk Trio.
Martin Novák often plays with Lenka Dusilová, Ondřej Pivec, Jaromír Honzák, Osian Roberts, Nick Etwell, Adam Tvrdý, Matěj Benko, Libor Šmoldas and others. In the past he played with musicians like Rich Perry, Steve Fishwick, Sam Sadigursky, Bob Montgomery, Rosťa Fraš, Ondřej Štveráček, Miriam Bayle and others. He played on tours in the Czech Republic, Turkey, Germany, Romania, Austria, Greece, Bulgaria and Slovakia. He became one of the most respected and demanded drummers in the Czech Republic.
